Television Centre was the first purpose built television studio complex in the country. In 2018 AHMM completed the redevelopment of the site to create a new mixed use neighbourhood including residential, office and leisure uses, while also retaining studio and production facilities within the site. The new studios house production offices, editing suites and updated broadcast facilities located in close proximity to the studios.
Since its opening the original building had been subject to many modifications in plan, and most of the original finishes had been lost. AHMM has worked to restore the clarity of the original plan, stripping back many of the later finishes to expose the existing concrete and brick structure.
The creation of additional dressing rooms with integrated en-suite facilities offers a first class experience for visiting performers, guests and contestants. These are further complemented by new green rooms and flexible breakout spaces.
