TQEC is a new post graduate residential campus for the University of Bristol, adjacent to Bristol Temple Meads Station. The base of the building is activated with the inclusion of commercial units and communal areas, defined by increasing floor to floor heights. Facing onto the enclosed courtyard the 24/7 student hub acts as the heart of the development with 24 hour reception and a variety of amenities including gym, games room, communal lounge, private workspace and meeting rooms.

Above, communal living and kitchen areas are well sized and feature large areas of glazing which capitalise on views across the city. Further residential amenity is proved on the ninth floor, where double-height garden rooms occupy the ends of the two main blocks leading on to a roof terrace.

The facade design has evolved from the cellular nature of student residential buildings and emphasise the verticality of the building. A considered approach has been take to the selection of both colour and materiality. Powder coated aluminium panels in brick tones reference the city’s rich industrial heritage and reinforces a sense of place for Bristol.
