Learning lessons from the warehouse feel of Monsoon’s former headquarters at the Battleship Building, the White Building focusses on the idea of large, thermally massive floors that provide generous volumes and little by way of finishes. A diamond shaped plan is extruded up seven storeys, opening up views to adjacent buildings and defining a sheltered landscape courtyard. Externally-expressed pre-cast concrete columns characterise the building’s exterior, and at the same time provide passive shading to the offices. Internally, the floorplates – offering a total of 82,000 square feet of working space – are organised to provide maximum flexibility within a standard 1.5m office grid. The building is currently the London headquarters of TalkTalk.
