Conceived in the early 1990s, with a masterplan by Richard Meier, Edinburgh Park is a linear development, running north / south along the western edge of the city of Edinburgh. AHMM have designed several office led mixed use buildings, providing over half a million square feet of offices and related amenity facilities as part of the new Dixon Jones Masterplan. No.1 New Park Square will be the first of these buildings being constructed as part of the 1st phase of construction, which includes 2 public spaces and areas for activity and car-park infrastructure. No.1 New Park Square will be an important landmark which signals the end of the existing park and Loch Ross, and creating a backdrop to a new civic square. A colonnade runs around the ground floor on the North, West and South elevations connecting to the pedestrian route from the nearby tram station. At ground floor a café, and a restaurant and music venue open out onto the new public square. The building will also house a 200-seat conference centre with four storeys of flexible office space above. The office floors are designed to allow for multiple configurations allowing the space to be let as a single office space or split for up to four tenants. Generous floor to ceiling heights improve daylighting, thermal comfort and provide flexible space.

On site at Edinburgh Park

On the fringe of Edinburgh city centre, building works have started on site at No.1 New Park Square, Edinburgh Park. The first of two AHMM designed buildings in the Dixon Jones masterplan, No.1 New Park Square will become a new landmark and gateway to the development. The mixed use building will create four floors of office space, with a 200 seat conference centre, a restaurant and two cafés at ground floor. The building will face on to a new public square featuring a specially commissioned original work by artist William Tucker. No.1 New Park Square is due for completion in August 2021.

Edinburgh Park planning approval

Edinburgh City Council has resolved to grant planning permission for a series of AHMM-designed office buildings within a wider mixed use masterplan led by Dixon Jones Architects six miles west of Edinburgh city centre. The buildings will provide over half a million square feet of offices and related amenity facilities, as part of the extension and re-invention of the existing office campus. The first new building, at five storeys, will provide offices, a 200-seat conference centre, a café, and a restaurant and music venue facing onto a new public square, with trams serving an adjacent stop. The wider proposals for the 43-acre masterplan developed for landowner Parabola include up to 1800 new residential units, a centralised car-park and energy centre, and a series of public squares and gardens. Construction is expected to begin in early 2019.
