Wildewood House

A private 3000sqft residence rests on stilts above a sloping half-acre lot in northwest Oklahoma City. Built of robust materials including corten weathering steel, the exterior will strengthen over time and guard against the region’s extreme weather. Instead of carving out of the steep landscape, the house is raised above it working with the site and leaving much of the existing forest and scrubland intact. Oklahoma can be hot, dry and sunny but famously stormy, and these extremes are addressed in the building’s orientation and material choices. The building is mostly elevated, which addresses both the risk of stormwater but also our aim for minimal disturbance to the landscape. Solar protection is provided by the buildings overhang and its sheltered glazing.
