The Creamery project takes three dilapidated industrial buildings in Edmond, Oklahoma, and reinvents them as a collection of restaurant and bar venues. At the centre of the development, the historic ice house, constructed in 1909, will become a new restaurant that builds on the history of the structure, contrasting the robust industrial appearance on the interior with a refined palette of wood, metal and leather finishes. Its new kitchen and patio additions are simple forms, clad in shou sugi ban cladding; a nod to the wood-fired oven at the centre of the kitchen. The stable of the ice house is converted to an events venue, while the third building on the site is reimagined as sea food restaurant, inspired by tar-painted fishermen’s shacks. The buildings are drawn together by a site-wide landscaping scheme that integrates parking, planting, and pocket gardens.
