Joao is an experienced architect who joined AHMM in 2012 after working for other design-led practice’s in the UK, Spain and Portugal. He has worked on the design and delivery of projects of significant scale with heritage and townscape sensitivities, across all stages, with a focus on life sciences, commercial and residential sectors.

Joao has led multidisciplinary design teams through design, coordination and delivery of complex buildings within prominent urban settings, such as Television Centre 2TVC, a BCO Award winning new office building forming part of the wider Television Centre masterplan for Stanhope.

More recently, Joao has led the successful development of 2 Ruskin Square, the new HQ for the Home Office in East Croydon which completed in 2023, working collaboratively with Stanhope through an ambitious programme to deliver the project six weeks ahead of schedule. He is currently Project Architect for the transformation of a Grade II listed building into a dynamic mixed-use scheme in the heart of Manchester.

Joao is a creative designer with an eye for detail and has a strong interest in technology and innovative digital tools which, along with a methodical approach, enables efficient project development. He was made an Associate in 2021 and an Associate Director in 2025.
