From being a start-up of four for most of our first ten years, and an emerging practice during the 2000s, to becoming an established and employee-owned business in our third decade, AHMM has been every size of practice over its 36 years.
A practice in which creative, practical problem-solvers across all parts of the business collaborate to address increasingly complex challenges in a world of constant change.
This year saw the next step in the practice’s long history of continuous evolution with the appointment of seven directors to join the founding directors on the Executive Board, each of them significant contributors to the work and practice of AHMM over the past two decades.
On the same day that these appointments were announced we were also delighted to share that we had been named as the Building Magazine Architecture Practice of the Year, one of 28 awards won throughout the year, including the RIBA London Building of the Year (Tower Hamlets Town Hall), a BCO National Award (Norton Folgate), the Building Award for Retrofit of the Year (76 Southbank), and a Civic Trust Award for Arthur Stanley House. While these awards celebrate the realisation of our projects, often many years in the making, we’re pleased to have seen these achievements accompanied by other milestones in the making of over 150 live projects.
Seventeen schemes received planning permission, from a rural community hub to a complex city centre development; eight reached the highest point in their construction; and seven achieved practical completion, including The Citizen in Oklahoma City, now the practice’s home there. Alongside the investment of our time, resources and skills within these many projects in progress, the practice has also continued to support community, humanitarian, environmental and educational initiatives led by our Partnerships Group, now in its tenth year, drawing from many people across the practice to sustain and direct this work.
The end of another busy year, with much having been achieved, brings the opportunity to celebrate and recognise the people who have made our success possible: our architectural teams of course, for the design and delivery of ever better buildings and places, and those who organise, administer, advise and maintain our practice and offices in London, Bristol, Oklahoma City, Sydney and Madrid.
Finally, we thank our clients, consultants and collaborators, and look forward to continued success with them in 2026.
