Three AHMM projects shortlisted for a 2026 AJ Architecture Award 24.08.26

1 Broadgate, Mason & Fifth Westbourne Park, and 76 Southbank have been shortlisted for a 2026 AJ Architecture Award. Run by the Architects’ Journal these awards celebrate and reward design excellence in UK architecture.

1 Broadgate, shortlisted in the Mixed Use category, provides flexible accommodation for a mix of uses, including two levels of retail space with twelve storeys of office space above, in the southern part of the Broadgate campus in the City of London. The massing and articulation help to break down the perceived scale of the building; at upper levels massing is sculpted to maintain sunlight to Broadgate’s key public spaces, while lower-level volumes pull apart to create entrances and retail arcades through the building. Generous terraces and balconies provide a total of 45,000 square feet of amenity and green space for building users.

Mason & Fifth Westbourne Park, shortlisted in the Mixed Use category, sees the redevelopment of a brownfield site, once occupied by the Licenced Taxi Drivers’ Association, to establish a new urban quarter designed to draw young creative, entrepreneurs and professionals to West London. Designed by AHMM with interiors by TiggColl, the scheme is a family of buildings around an urban courtyard, designed for residents and the wider community, opening to the canal. A 332-key flexible living building anchors the development, with social and work lounges, communal dining, listening lounge, screening room and wellness suite (pool, gym and movement studio). The scheme also provides amenities for the wider community, including co-working, affordable workspaces and a waterfront restaurant.

76 Southbank, shortlisted in the Refurbishment category, celebrates the transformation of a once-deteriorating Grade-II listed building designed by Sir Denys Lasdun into a bespoke, renewed contemporary workplace which celebrates its heritage and thoughtfully enhances it to meet the needs of modern use. The building was stripped back to its frame and remodelled to make it fit for 21st century office occupiers with a new open circulation core, fully accessible landscaped terraces and 100,000 square feet of additional office space. The existing floorplates have been decluttered to make the most of the inherent volumes and the domineering car ramps were carefully cut out of the building and replaced by a new street level colonnaded entrance, pedestrianising its car-orientated relationship with the public realm.

Winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony in November.
