Phase 1 of the Brentford Masterplan has won an RIBA National Award 09.07.26

Phase 1 of the Brentford Masterplan, a collaboration between AHMM, Howells, Maccreanor Lavington, HAL Architects, Formation Architects (Delivery Architect) and Grant Associates (landscape and public realm) for Ballymore, has been awarded an RIBA National Award.

The Brentford Masterplan is a major mixed-use regeneration of a 12-acre site into a vibrant destination comprising homes, retail, restaurants, cafes and leisure opportunities. Aiming to rejuvenate the High Street by linking the town centre to the waterfront and reinstating lost connections to the River Brent, the masterplan has restored the site’s heritage, retaining buildings of historical value and reintroducing wharf and shed style buildings with steel frame buildings, simple grids, and an industrial brick aesthetic.

Completed in 2024, Phase 1 includes Calville House, Lewis House, Hollandbury House, the refurbishment of the existing buildings on Bradbury Mews, and landscape design by Grant Associates. Phase 2 is due to complete in 2028 with additional buildings from Coffey Architects and HAL Architects, creating an architectural richness across the masterplan.

Calville House, designed by Maccreanor Lavington, sees the refurbishment and conversion of two historic buildings fronting onto Brentford High Street, and the creation of a new mixed-use building housing a food store, high street retail and 107 new homes.

Lewis House, designed by AHMM, creates of a group of buildings accommodating 144 apartments over a plinth of high street retailers, a cinema, small independent businesses, and restaurants.

Hollandbury House, designed by Howells, is a contemporary interpretation of the warehouse architecture with two buildings stepped in height and cranked in plan to respond directly to the bend in the river, and to address Workhouse Dock to the east as a key piece of public realm.

The refurbishment of the existing warehouses on Bradbury Mews, adjacent to Lewis House, are designed by HAL Architects, and house a café.
