This year for Open House the public can come and visit AHMM’s Tower Hamlets Town Hall. On Saturday 20 September, come and celebrate the official plaque unveiling for the building, a new photography exhibition celebrating 60 years of Tower Hamlets as a borough and hourly building tours plus other free activities. On Sunday 21 September come and visit for hourly building tours.
Tower Hamlets Town Hall encompasses the restoration of the Grade II listed former Royal London Hospital building with the addition of a new build extension as the new home for London Borough of Tower Hamlets, consolidating several of the council’s offices into one, more accessible location in Whitechapel.
During the building tours you will hear more about the design of the building’s public spaces and also have the chance to see parts of the building not normally open to the public, including an old operating theatre that is now a meeting space.
Open House Festival is a London-wide festival that opens up and celebrates the city’s architecture, special places and neighbourhoods. Run by Open City, an educational charity empowering communities to learn about, experience and have a role in shaping places where they live, the festival will take place from Saturday 13 September to Sunday 21 September with a number of free open days, events and guided tours taking place across all 33 London Boroughs.
