Norton Folgate wins a BCO National Award 08.10.25

Last night, Tuesday 7 October, Norton Folgate received a British Council for Offices (BCO) National Award in the Refurbished/Recycled Workplace category.

Occupying a prominent position on the City Fringe, a short walk from Liverpool Street Station, Norton Folgate is one of the most complex projects delivered by British Land and architect team led by AHMM and including Stanton Williams, Morris + Company, DSDHA and East. The project comprises three urban blocks with the retention of a significant number of historic buildings, creation of six new buildings and new public realm.

The project regenerates a derelict, unsafe group of sites which had laid empty for a decade, improving the streetscape and setting of the Elder Street Conservation Area. The project goes beyond delivering first clad commercial office space and creates a network of spaces which give amenity and allow spatial choices for people to walk, meet, site and experience this layered and rich part of London.

Norton Folgate sets new standard for retrofit, refurbishment, and redevelopment in Central London, and acts as a blueprint for reusing building fabric. It is a unique destination whose character has been preserved and provides a sense of history within a modern sustainable workspace for businesses of all sectors and sizes.

BCO judges commented that the project 'showcases the meticulous restoration of historic structures dating from the late 1800s. By integrating these with thoughtfully designed new constructions, the project maintains the architectural integrity of the Elder Street Conservation Area while offering a variety of office spaces tailored to different business needs, alongside retail and leisure facilities... Through its sensitive architectural approach, strong ESG commitments and enhancement of public spaces, the project fosters economic and social vitality, setting a new benchmark for sustainable urban regeneration.'
