AHMM has been shortlisted in three categories in this year’s BD Architect of the Year Awards: Office Architect of the Year, Refurbishment and Reinvention Architect of the Year, and One-off Major Project of the Year for Norton Folgate.
Our submission for the 2025 BD Office Architect of the Year includes Assembly Bristol, One Broadgate, Angel Square and Belgrove House, all of which demonstrate our belief that offices should provide different kinds of space that are particular to their location and possess inherent architectural quality. Our office experience ranges from city scale masterplans and urban interventions, to bespoke fit-outs and furniture design.
Reusing existing buildings with distinctive design features brings the added advantages of economy and sustainability, and our submission for the 2025 BD Refurbishment and Reinvention Architect of the Year includes Norton Folgate, TQEC Research Hub, Metropolis and the London Chest Hospital. These projects are examples of where, through smart adaptations and intelligent additions, we are able to transform buildings into attractive, efficient, and future-proofed places. Reuse and retrofit extends the useful life of buildings and reasserts their place in the city, while improving energy performance and reducing significant amounts of embodied carbon and resources.
Occupying a prominent position on the City Fringe, a short walk from Liverpool Street Station, Norton Folgate is one of the most complex projects delivered by British Land and the architect team led by AHMM and including DSDHA, East, Morris + Company and Stanton Williams. The project comprises three urban blocks with the retention of a significant number of historic buildings, creation of six new buildings and new public realm. Rather than applying a blanket strategy, the masterplan employs a building-by-building approach to the retained buildings, utilising restoration, refurbishment, extension, remodelling and façade retention.
