The international competition brief called for a collection of bus shelters. The built answer was this great elliptical canopy with its tree-like columns and circular skylights. It now deals with the challenge of half a dozen different bus companies running more than 100 buses an hour. A new town square was created out of the realignment of surrounding roads, a backyard for buses and a new piece of public space.
