KX200

KX200
  • Completion: 2008
  • Cost: £32 million
  • Client: First Base Ltd & The Blackstone Group

Two redundant office towers are stripped back to their frame and reset into a new podium whose super-scaled concrete cladding components contrast with the towers lightweight filigree pattern of perforated steel and glass. What was once office is now a horizontally layered mix of 846 student rooms, 50 market and 14 affordable apartments, offices, retail and private and communal courts. This is a new mixed-use model for London that describes the commercial, environmental and architectural potential for re-using structures.
