Angel Building Opens

The Angel Building, on the corner of St John Street and Pentonville Road, Islington, represents a model for re-use or more appropriately re-invention, with the massively extended 'new' building answering C21st environmental and urban needs (whilst also achieving a BREAM excellent rating).

A new steel frame and complete new cladding wraps an existing retained concrete frame; re-engaging the building with the street; whilst a new concrete structure, inserted into a derelict courtyard, forms a new atrium which becomes the building's public room, focus and organising force. With a newly landscaped public realm set around existing mature trees, the introduction of shops and restaurants will bring activity to this underused corner in the heart of Islington.

Angel opened on the 6th October, with part of the building already pre-let by the client Derwent London to Cancer Research UK as their main headquarters.
